When to Apply at UTS

At UTS, we welcome new students with two primary intakes each year. To ensure a smooth application process, we recommend submitting your application at least three months prior to the start of your intended intake period.

Foundation Programs

Undergraduate Programs

  • February
  • September

Postgraduate Programs

  • February and September (by coursework)
  • March, June, September and December (by research)

To ensure a smooth transition to your new academic life at UTS, please make sure to:

  1. Verify the date of Registration Day
  2. Complete and submit the Airport Pick-up Form
  3. Confirm your accommodation details
  4. Double-check all travel plans
  5. Gather all necessary travel documents (such as your visa and passport)
  6. Notify the UTS Centre for International Relations of your confirmed arrival date and flight
  7. Pack all original forms, documents, certificates, and results
  8. Carry some Malaysian currency and have your ATM card ready for international use
  9. Keep handy the contact details of the Centre for International Relations and the University's address

Roadmap To Apply

Embark on your educational journey at the University of Technology Sarawak with our straightforward application roadmap. Designed to guide prospective students through the application process, our roadmap lays out four essential steps to secure your place:

Step 1

Ready the documents

  1. Previous academic transcripts/results
  2. English proficiency test results (e.g. IELTS)
  3. Passport size photos with white background (35mm×45mm)
  4. Copy of passport with minimum 1 year validity (all pages)
  5. Course syllabus (if request for credit transfer)

All documents that are not in English must be translated by the Notary.

Applications for Postgraduate programmes can only be done online via Oculus.

Step 3

Scan and email the completed application form together with the required documents

Check all documents before submission. Email the completed application form and the required documents to cir@uts.edu.my.

Step 4

Receive your offer letter via email

UTS Centre for International Relations(CIR) will notify and email the applicant the admission decision.

Getting Student Visa

STEP 1: VISA APPLICATION

  1. Initiate a visa application online with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) by registering at https://visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my.
  2. Provide information as accurately as possible according to your offer letter and passport details. Ensure that all documents are in order as this will affect your visa approval. Basic documents required:
  • University offer letter
  • Pre-arrival medical report (must be done at clinic that produces English reports)
    Note: If you are coming from a country which is considered to be at a high risk of yellow fever, you will be required to obtain the necessary inoculations before coming to Malaysia. You will be asked to provide your yellow fever vaccination booklet/card before you can clear Immigration at the point of entry.
  • Passport pages (ALL pages)
  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • Passport size photo with WHITE background (35mm×45mm)
    Note: Refer to https://visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my for photo guidelines.
  • English proficiency result (if applicable)
  1. Make an initial payment for visa processing (actual amount varies, please check the fee calculator at https://visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my/). Any unutilised amount will be refunded by the EMGS.

 

STEP 2: VISA APPROVAL

Once the visa application is approved by the Sarawak State Immigration Department, you can download the electronic Visa Approval Letter (VAL) via the EMGS account. If your visa application is refused, you will be notified in writing.

 

STEP 3: SINGLE ENTRY VISA (SEV)

Use the VAL to obtain the Single Entry Visa at the designated Malaysian Embassy.

 

STEP 4: TRAVEL TO MALAYSIA

Arrange to travel to Malaysia once you have received the Single Entry Visa. You will need to bring along the hardcopy of VAL for your immigration clearance upon arrival in Malaysia.

 

STEP 5: STUDENT PASS ENDORSEMENT

Do the post-arrival medical screening within 7 days of your arrival date for the issuance of Student Pass.

Please note that the procedures are subject to change without prior notice based on the requirement of the Malaysia Immigration Department. You are advised to check with UTS for the latest update. Alternatively, UTS can assist students with the visa application after receiving the complete documents.

Acceptance of Offer
  1. Complete the following offer pack:
    • Acceptance Letter
    • Health Declaration
    • Medical Examination Form
    • Refund Policy Form
    • Personal Financial Information Form
    • Airport Pick-up Form
    • Family Information Form
    • International Student Handbook Acknowledgement Receipt
  2. Make payment
    Please make all the necessary payment as indicated in the offer letter in Malaysian currency. The University will not be liable for any discrepancies from the payment made by the foreign currencies which will be borne by the students. All payment must be made payable to EDUSAR RESOURCES SDN BHD. Payment must not be made to a third party be it UTS agent, representative or staff. Mode of payment as follows:
    • Telegraphic TransferStudent’s name & payment details must be included when processing the telegraphic transfer.
  3. Email the completed documents listed in (1) above including the payment receipt
    Check all documents before submission. Email the completed offer pack, payment receipt, and relevant documents to cir@uts.edu.my.
